Must belief in God include belief in the nonsensical?
The existence of Angels. Angels becoming devils. Adam and Eve and a talking snake. God becoming angry with Man and killing almost everyone in the world with a flood simply for not worshiping Him. Also, the people at the time, like Adam and Eve ,were not really human anyway, since they lived to be 900 years old. They were apparently some sort of demigods.
Is this the real earth or some kind of J.R.R.Tolkien-like Middle-Earth?
Shouldn’t the way reality actually behaves be indicative of the way that God actually behaves?
As far as Jesus goes, I love Christmas but I never really believed that Jesus was more than a man. How does dying on a cross absolve us of Original sin which doesn’t exist anyway? Why do we need a messiah? What’s wrong with the idea of just one God, period? Also, what kind of monster creates a place like Hell? Isn’t it enough that the few truly evil people in the world, when they die, do not experience any afterlife since they are "soulless"? The vast majority of the rest of us, when we die, may then continue to experience an afterlife of sorts in some other nonphysical form, maybe. Doesn’t that make more sense?
Unlike Atheists, I believe that the existence of God is possible. Perhaps our universe is like an idea or a brain cell in the mind of God. As we have continued to evolve from a lower form of life, somewhere along the line we achieved higher consciousness. We aren’t just smarter than the other animals, there is much more to us than that. Perhaps our consciousness is linked with God.
So then, the only way that God could possibly exist, is for reality to have a consciousness of its own at its highest and most complex level and this is God.
I could be wrong, of course, but doesn’t this concept of God make more sense than the God of ancient mythology?
You are just referring to Christianity and Judaism when you mentioned the talking snake, the falling angels etc. I am inviting you to read and study about Islam.
We Muslims believe that Islam is the one true religion and Quran is the word of God. Quran is the proof of Islam as the true religion. Can anyone 1400 years ago wrote this kind of Book?
